Multimodal
Highways and roads were still seen as vital, but other modes like buses, trains, planes, shipping, bicycles, etc. were also seen as critical to the future quality of life and economic competitiveness of the state. Although there was some tension between the quality and the quantity of options available, having options for different types of trips was emphasized.

The Department of Transportation (DOT) is just that, a department of Transportation, not Department of Highways or Single Occupancy Vehicles (cars). Although we've seen MnDOT welcoming Complete Streets at the top level, on-the-street, project-level implementation of building and rebuilding our roads to be safe, convenient and accessible to all modes is lagging. Time to step it up and begin practicing what we're preaching!
Obviously, it is important to keep all transportation options open to serve the needs of a diverse population. The key is to allocate the public transportation funds in a way that will optimize the return on investment.
