Video and poll: Opportunities in India and China?

1.
Donohue suggests the growing economies in China and India could become markets for Minnesota products. In what ways could the economic growth of China and India be considered an opportunity for Minnesota?
Recent answers given:- They will need a lot of food.
We could be the next third world country, we'll be making junk for them cheaply.
- I think there are huge potentials for Minnesota to be able to export large quantities of the agriculture product, be it livestock (hogs, chickens, turkeys, etc.), dairy products or corn, sugar beets, oats, etc. to these developing nations as their populations continue to grow and become accustom to western culture. Minnesota is also a leader in the use of alternative energies. This may be an opportunity to take our knowledge and resources to China and India to teach ways to harness/produce clean, sustainable energy. Rather than starting out (which they already have) using fossil fuels and dumping millions of tons of carbon/pollution into the atmosphere. Other opportunities include the high quality ore and taconite in northern MN for export and Minnesota's healthcare system. As China and India grow and become more industrialized and developed, access to better health care will be critical. Minnesota continues to be a leader in this area.
2.Donohue makes the observation that reliability of the transportation system is a key factor for economic competitiveness. As you think about your own transportation needs and use, choose the characteristic that is of most importance to you:
- Speed of travel
- Predictability of travel time
- They will need a lot of food.
