Report a Bug Give Feedback

I'm a member of the Steering Committee and have attended the Summit and two of the input sessions.  One of the questions that has come up is how to define quality in parks and trails. What are quality values or criteria that the Legacy Plan should address for parks and trails?

Colleen, this morning we had a focus group with students from the High School for Recording Arts.  To my surprise (and shame for having assumptions going into the meeting) they really enjoy nature and the outdoors.  They said things like nature is "good for the soul," and "I got a thing for trees."  Speaking for them, their idea of quality is to keep things rustic.  They did not favor highly developing the parks and trails, as "the whole point is observing nature."  Likewise, they favored mid-sized investments because it allows fairly convenient access, but also provides a better sanctuary for nature and wildlife than smaller investments.  In short, I think quality meant "as natural as possible."
