Open Discussion: What's Your Vision?
Preserving an unspoiled wilderness
I believe a guiding principal should be the real legacy; preserving an unspoiled wilderness. Developing more and more ATV trails would NOT reflect this principle. If the DNR continues to use gas taxes to exploit the forest, then people walking a "shared" trail will never experience the peace and quiet of a natural environment. I would hope this practice would not continue with the legacy money. Try walking a trail in Silver Bay, winter or summer, and reflect on what it would feel like without all of the noise.
I believe part of any trail system in Minnesota must include opportunities for all users. To leave out ATVs and Snowmobiles is ridiculous. There is plenty of room to have motorized, non-motorized and multi-use trails within our state. if a goal is to provide access for all Minnesotans, please remember, some people are unable to ski, ride horses or bikes, or even walk. Don't overlook the economic benefit of providing motorized trails in various communities.
