About the Parks & Trails Legacy Project
In The News
The Parks & Trails Legacy Project is getting a lot of coverage in the news.
The Citizens League is working with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources to engage Minnesotans in the Parks and Trails Legacy Project. The project will establish guidelines for how money from the 2008 constitutional "Legacy Amendment" (money from the sales tax increase) and other traditional sources of funding will be spent over the next 25 years based on the vision and priorities of Minnesotans.
The activities here are designed to facilitate a conversation around Minnesotans' vision for parks and trails. The overarching themes and ideas from CitiZing will be combined with other information - like from the regional workshops and quantitative research - to guide the recommendations.
Public participation will happen via four avenues: a summit of community leaders in April, regional workshops throughout the state in May and June, targeted meeting with underrepresented groups in the summer, and online activities throughout. Input will feed into the DNR's workgroups, who will be responsible for incorporating data and public input when drafting their sections of the plan.
The process consists of a Steering Team who oversees the work, the University of Minnesota who's working independently to develop an inventory and framework, topic-based workgroups that will draft parts of the plan, and public input throughout that will inform all of the work.
